Images are mute to search engines. A photography website becomes visible through what surrounds them: descriptions, structured data, and a site structure you can explain in one sentence.
Alt text that describes something
Alt text names subject, place and situation in one short sentence — "night bus on route 31, Zurich, 03:40" rather than "photo" or a string of keywords. It serves screen readers and image search at once.
Add structured data
Article with date and author for posts, ImageObject with location for images, LocalBusiness or Person for the site itself. Content is then recognised as work, place and provider rather than plain text.
Image sitemap and filenames
A sitemap with image entries surfaces frames that would otherwise never be found. Filenames like zurich-nightbus-2024.jpg do more work than IMG_4821.jpg.
The journal as an entrance
People search for questions, not names. Explain a method — developing film, optimising images, setting a grid — and you are found through those questions, then lead readers on to the pictures and the services.
